The history of Padel
Padel originated in Mexico in 1969. It was invented by Enrique Corcuera, a wealthy businessman living in Acapulco. He didn’t have enough space on his property for a full tennis court, so he built a smaller version with walls, creating a new sport that combined elements of tennis and squash.
The sport gained popularity when it spread to Spain and Argentina in the 1970s and 1980s. Spain especially embraced it, and today it's one of the country's most popular sports—second only to football in terms of participation. From there, padel expanded to the rest of Europe, the Middle East, and now it's growing rapidly in South Africa, the UK, the Nordics, and even North America.
